Steve Bates
Steve Bates is a longtime gardener and journalist. He grew up in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C., where he still lives. Steve received a scholarship from the Virginia chapter of Sigma Delta Chi, the Society of Professional Journalists, and he received a bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary. He has won numerous awards for his writing and editing for newspapers, magazines and the Internet. He spent 14 years as a reporter and editor at The Washington Post. This is Steve’s first book, inspired by his love of gardening and writing. He also enjoys baseball, travel and photography, and he plans to work toward certification as a garden and landscape designer.
